Salt and honey are familiar ingredients, but their names on a soap package do not tell you what they do in the finished bar.
Salt can be used during soapmaking to influence the bar itself, including its hardness and structure. Honey may also be included as part of a soap formulation, although the product name alone does not establish what honey contributes to a particular finished soap.
The ingredients highlighted on the front may be part of the product’s identity, while the full ingredient list tells you what else has gone into the formula.
What Does Salt Do in Soap?
Salt has a practical history in soapmaking. Depending on the formula and manufacturing method, it can affect how firm the finished bar becomes.
That does not make a salt-containing soap equivalent to a salt scrub or a soak in salt water. They are different products used in different ways.
A bar of soap is worked over wet skin and then rinsed away. Because the soap is rinsed off, it should not be assumed to offer the same effects as a leave-on product.
What About Honey?
Honey is widely recognised as an ingredient in food and personal care, but seeing it in the name of a soap does not tell us how much is present or what it does in the finished product.
Without knowing how much honey is in the soap or why it was added, we cannot say what it does for your skin.
